As a Mood Williams Camp Scholarship Fund recipient, Liam (8) was able to attend Mooresville Graded School Districts Summer Camp program for three weeks this past summer. His mom Kristin shared, “he was able to attend camp with his friends and I didn’t have to worry about childcare, while I went to my treatments this summer. It was great to see him happy each day and hear all his stories about friends he made and field trips. Having him have so much fun helped me not worry my treatments would impact his summer.”
A Breast Cancer Diagnosis Affects the Entire Family
Liam’s mom Kristin was diagnosed with Stage III Invasive Duct Carcinoma/Estrogen +/HER2- in late 2024 and continues to receive treatment. After her body not responding to the initial chemotherapy treatments, she was accepted into a clinical trial to fight the disease and continued treatment throughout this past summer. Kristin shared, “My diagnosis has been hard on Liam. As a single mom, I’m my child’s world. He is worried about what would happen to him, if I left him. My hope for the future is that he can find the positives in his life, even when things get hard.”
A Child’s Reflection
Liam shared, “Camp was fun! My favorite memory was our field trip to Statesville pool. I loved their water slide and the lazy river.” When we asked him how he would describe his mom he told us, “My mom is nice, funny, kind and respectful. She loves me!” We cherish learning about our grantees and their entire family. Being able to help give joy during a scary time is something we are honored to provide through our Mood Williams Camp Scholarship Fund.
Mood’s Fund
This summer we were able to support 33 children with summer camps or programming through our Mood Williams Camp Scholarship Fund. Giving these children a chance to smile, laugh and find joy during a difficult time. We are grateful for our 2025 sponsors Nucor Charitable Foundation and Myers Park Methodist Church’s Builders Class. If you’d like to help support Mood’s Fund you can donate here or reach out to Jessie Nash to learn more about the fund and opportunities to get connected.
